| Finger Stall |
Developed by us
to provide some protection against the abrasive effect of any backing line on
the unwary finger, this simple heavy duty finger stall is easily fitted even
when playing a fish. Available in standard and small sizes (for the lady anglers
and those with smaller hands). It may also be used by the stillwater angler
in place of the all too frequently used Elastoplast.
They are also ideal for protecting the line guiding thumb if you use trolling
tackle. They are not as warm as cotton gloves!
Hook Sharpeners |
We have four varieties of diamond sharpener available. The pen type with a choice of two grooves for sharpener for hooks - unlike some other varieties this has a plastic, non-corroding cover.
For the larger hooks on plugs and off shore hooks try the folding sharpener, again with 2 grooves.
We also have 2 flat types with a hook groove if you prefer, one in a key ring size fob and the other a larger tackle-bag size
Reel Cases| Fly Reels |
Made of 6mm neoprene these cases will minimise any risk of damage to your expensive saltwater fly reels while travelling to the fishing. They are designed to fit the reel even when on the rod and are tailored to minimise the risk of sand blowing in or a wave forcing saltwater into the reel.
| Spinning and Multiplying reels |
Again developed to protect the reel while on the rod the case has two apertures for the butt. The central one is for when a multiplying (or baitcasting reel as it is known in the USA ) is in use. The other aperture at the side allows a spinning reel to be protected, though the handle should be folded down. Simply push the butt of the rod through the appropriate aperture, slide up over the reel and press to close.
|
We also have two cases for different sizes of multiplying reels (Ambassadeur 5000 or 600, and Shimano small TLD's), but these will not fit the reel while it is on the rod. However they do provide good protection to the reel while it is in the bottom of your tackle bag, and for spare spools also. |

Awaiting Delivery |
In some of the more distant camps you may find that the rod hooks on the boats are not as well covered, as they should be. If you want to store a spare rod on them ready to use, we would suggest you consider a pair of these. Initially designed to close around the rod and buffer the effects of the boat, we have added a small loop enabling you to wrap the protector around a suitable object and then rest the rod under this loop to hold it in place. The two most obvious sites are on the rail on the side of a boat to stop a spin rod slipping while you tackle up or wait for a bite, and on the horizontal rail under an offshore T-top to store a rod out of the way.
Developed to make carrying two or more rods easier these straps will also enable you to strap a rod to a rail etc. They have a hook and loop fastening at both ends which increases their versatility as they will not fall off when one end is undone - other similar traps will only fasten at one end.
Sunglasses
|
We stock a select range of the most appropriate lens and frames for the angler. The mirrored lenses provide greater depth penetration. Green mirrors with amber lens for the flats, with blue mirrors and grey lens for offshore. Some of the frames have built in side shields, or are close fitting, while with the lighter more open frames we would strongly recommend using the side shields - so much so that we have included them in the price.
Ocean Waves are 99.9% polarised and block UV A, B & C as well as most infrared light and some blue. The mirroring is between the glass and so cannot scratch off. They are also available in prescription for those of us who need ordinary glasses as well; though not all prescriptions will fit all the frames. We will need a copy of your prescription together the pupilary distance so the centre of your eye is in the centre of the lens. Bifocals are not available and we believe you are actually better off with single vision when wading as you need to see the bottom, and most bifocals are designed to give you close vision through the lower part of the lens.
Our own spectacle strap differs from others by being longer in the attaching arm. Many such straps are slightly short and pull the frame uncomfortably back to the face. The extra length minimises this, and also allows the tube to fit along the arm of the frame rather than extending down the earpiece which can be very uncomfortable. However they are easily trimmed back if you prefer the conventional design.
| Luggage |
These are the items that started the Travelling Angler off. The major advances in rod design and materials now allows for the high quality rods we sell. The advantages are two fold, firstly you have a chance of being allowed to take your precious rods and reels in the cabin with you. Most fellow anglers will lend you spare flies and leaders, but rods and reels are different.
Four piece rods will also fit in the bottom of our hold luggage. 3 lengths of 4" square strong plastic tube will hold all the rods you could need for you holiday. Square tube will hold more rods than round tube of a similar size, as the rings will fit into the corners. The larger bag is similarly constructed but designed to take 3 piece rods - hence its greater length and, is available to special order only. During its prototype stages this bag was known as the Beast.
Both bags are soft topped allowing them to compress to the minimum size to hold your luggage, and are thus more easily stowed in the hold of the small planes used to get out to some camps. - No more crossed fingers that the second plane will actually arrive the next day with it.
Label holders are positioned externally and internally just in case the luggage goes astray. All the zips are lockable and we provide suited padlocks so there is no need to try all the keys before you find the right one.
The cabin rod box is 2 lengths of 4" tube to take 4 piece rods with padded pockets to take fly reels. Beware of taking flies on board, some airlines have declared these weapons which must be transported in the hold.
Scales and Weigh Bags |
Cardoza Scales are made with stainless steel springs and hooks. They have an Anodised Aluminium housing and most importantly an indicator which stays in place after the load is removed. This lets you set the reel drag single handedly. No more guessing or altering the drag until it feels right. Whilst not certified to IGFA standards the addition of a weigh bag will allow a more accurate estimate of your fish before releasing it, than the sometimes generous suggestions of your guide. We stock 3 sizes:
1. 15lb in 2 oz segments
2. 30lb in 4 oz segments
Scales weighing up to 100lb in 1lb segments and from 8oz to 8lb in 1oz segments are available to special order.
Weigh Bags - are made from knotless mesh and will take fish to 48" long. Unlike some we have seen these have no metal crimps to corrode. We suggest you do wash them out at the end of the day though unless you want to take that particular odour home with you to remind you of the great event.
